Lorenzo Buford
Lorenzo just completed a new play, "Eros and Death, Their Cancer Memoirs." He is currently writing a play about ageism, racism and sexism "Sexual Apartheid" and a play about Giordano Bruno, a 16th century mystic burned at the stake alive by the Inquisition called "Heretic of Reality."
His one act play, "My Heaven, Your Hell" will be staged at Write Act Repertory Theater in Hollywood in March 2007.
As a Playwright, Buford had a stage reading of a new play in October 2006 called Picasso Blue which deals with Picasso' Blue Period. His play about the Spanish director, Luis Bunel, "A Pilgrimage of Memories" debuted at the Horace Mann Theater in New York as part of the Centennial Celebration of Bunel's birth. "Tea Time", the full-length version, was staged at the Shapiro Theater in New York University with Geany Massai, and Greta Boston, (Tony Winner for "It Ain't Nuthin But the Blues".)
His play, "Tea Time", won first place at the Inner City Cultural Art Center's Short Play Competition in Los Angeles. It was originally produced at Celebration Theatre in Los Angeles. It is now a full-length play that had a stage reading in 1999 at the Towne Street Theatre with Virginia Capers and Amentha Dymally and was recently made into a short film.
"This Woman In Me," a one act play, debuted at the Atlas Supper Club in Los Angeles in December 1997. He has participated in a workshop performance at Highways called "Revelations".
He had a stage reading of a one act play, "Hollow Is Thy Name" by Live Actors Society at the Players Space in North Hollywood.
In San Francisco, he wrote and directed two performance pieces one at the Marsh Performance Gallery, "Fragments" and "Dark Diva" at Muchachas Restaurant.
Buford debuted his first play at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (SIUE), "Amanda…Seven Years After," which was later staged in Los Angeles under the title "Nobody Likes Ugly" at the Flight Theater. Also at SIUE, he debut his first musical, "We're Just People," which he wrote the book and lyrics.
Buford has participated in the UCLA Extension Program Playwriting Workshop, is a former member of the Los Angeles Playwriting Group. He has participated in Theater Rhinoceros Playwriting Workshop in San Francisco and LATC in Los Angeles.
